A Nation Frozen With Fear! Paraskavedekatriaphobia (er, that's Fear of Friday the 13th)Strikes Again…

While this Friday the 13th may pass with nothing but a superstitiously raised eyebrow for most of us, for thousands of Americans it's a day they will simply… DREAD!

Formally known in medical literature (and sounding scary just by its name) as "Paraskavedekatriaphobia," the Fear of the Number 13 and thus Friday the 13th is one of the oldest phobias in the world. It ranks along with the fears of flying and public speaking as one of the most widely-shared phobias as well.

"Mercifully Friday the 13th only happens once this calendar year," explains Seymour Segnit, founder of CTRN: Change That's Right Now, an organization that assists people in overcoming major phobias. "Web traffic to our site sky-rockets every time this famous date approaches, making it the number-one most searched for phobia."

What causes the fear of Friday the 13th? Segnit says that all phobias occur whenever the unconscious mind believes that something may represent a clear and present danger for the individual. They typically stem from some deep-seated, unresolved moment in the past when a person had a highly fearful experience at the same instant he or she encountered something distinctive, such as flying, an enclosed space, a dog, or indeed the number 13 lurking ominously in the right hand column the calendar. The brain automatically associates this experience with danger, hence the instinctive feelings of intense fear that are triggered whenever the individual approaches a similar situation.

The good news for paraskavedekatriaphobics everywhere, and indeed anyone who has a serious fear or phobia is that thanks to recent research from the University of California their fear can get now be eliminated in a few hours using the techniques taught by organizations like Segnit's CTRN. These techniques are available in a variety of ways, from an economical one-day home study program up to often pricey one-on-one coaching.

To help people better understand how to deal with fears and phobias – and specifically, how to vanquish them forever – Seymour Segnit is offering a free live telephone conference call this Friday 13th May at 9pm EST, 6pm PST. To join in, or just listen anonymously to this complimentary teleconference, please send an email to Friday13th@CTRN.com. Members of the media are also encouraged to attend!
