I had a severe driving phobia, particularly for highways and large roads. I just could not go on them. I called Change That's Right Now in November and actually, I discovered it just through a website.
What made me look was the fact that I had just committed myself to the fact that I would have to turn down a job, because I wouldn't be able to do the extensive travelling that it would require. It wasn't the first job that I would've turned down. So I was just really fed up at this point and didn't want to turn the job down.
I called the number on the website and went through the methodologies that CTRN uses. You know, it wasn't something that I ever expected was possible. In the back of my mind honestly, I wasn't sure that I would be able to do it because its not something that I have been able to do for a very long time. I mean, to the point where I could not drive. My husband would act as my chauffeur. If he wasn't able to take me, I didn't go.
I missed funerals, I missed weddings, I turned down jobs because I could not drive. I could not physically do it. So I called the program in November. A few weeks after having talked to my counselor, I did my first sort of highway test and it was fine. I mean it was absolutely fine. I had no problem. It didn't even occur to me to be afraid when I was on the highway. I couldn't force myself to have the fear that I had before.
I go where I want to go now, I do exactly what I want to do, when I want to do it. I have missed that for so long and I have missed out on so many things. Friends that I haven't seen in years because I couldn't drive to them and see them, I've seen, which feels great.
I highly recommend this program. I can't say enough good things about it. It's not magic. It's not any pill that you take thats going to relax you or anything like that. It's all you working with the counselor. It's you working through the issue and it really is almost immediate at least for me it was. I really was ready for the change, I was really tired of just giving up so much and tired of being afraid and it wasn't something I had always been afraid of.
I used to love to drive but for almost 10 years I couldn't do it and now that I can, I don't intend to stop anytime soon. I've made plans, travel plans. I took the job. I was offered that job and I took it. I travel now and I really love it and I am overwhelmed everytime I get in the car and am able to do it. It's like being born all over again. I mean it's that exciting and it feels so good to be in control again and to be able to do it.
I am very thankful of this program. I highly recommended it if you have a driving phobia, or any phobia I would imagine it would work well for. If I can do it as scared as I was I think that its possible for anybody to overcome it. So thank you very much. The program was just wonderful and I am so happy that I did it.
