I had been terrified of heights from as far back as I can remember...
As a child, it was a nightmare for my parents. I could not go anywhere that involved steep flights of stairs or escalators. They had to provide a permanent Taxi service. I missed out on many school trips that involved tube train journeys or museums. On holidays over the years, I have found myself in many ´white knuckle´ situations, for example stuck half way up Mount Vesuvius in Italy. I have vivid memories of staring up at the Empire State building in New York, knowing that my friends were going up & I was going shopping.
Last year my Christmas present to my entire family was a ticket each for a trip in the London Eye - the massive site-seeing observation wheel which gives incredible views across London. They had a great time whilst I waited on the ground for them.
Ok, they may seem like extreme examples but until working with CTRN's Phobia Clinic I was still unable to travel on a subway train for fear of the stairs and escalators at either end of my journey, pretty inconvenient if you work in cities like New York and London!
Now I am totally free of my fear. I can run up and down escalators without thinking, it was strange at first, but I love the feeling now. My family and friends adore skiing and I have never been with them for fear of the height on the slopes, and the ski lifts, but I am currently sifting through travel brochures and will send you a postcard from my imminent snow boarding holiday....
This has changed my life forever... You can´t put a price on that.
