2 May 2003: - I thought you might like to hear an update from me, now that I have flown for the first time after the program. I had to fly from Dallas to New Orleans yesterday for business. I was a little apprehensive early in the week --- not so much about the flying itself but about whether the therapy with you worked (isn't that crazy?).
The flights themselves were great. I couldn't believe (and still can't) how easy it was. I was more relaxed on a plane than I have been in 10 years. And with no medication! The return flight was an even better test: at times it was pretty turbulent, but I actually dozed off.
Unreal.
Sep 22: - We haven't spoken in a while, but I have even more great news about my progress. Since we last talked, I have flown at least a dozen times including two long international flights. Each time I have done so without any of my previous anxiety.
Last week, for example, I had to travel for business. We took off in the rain, flew through a thunderstorm, which was quite turbulent, and landed in rain again. And I was fine. I just did a crossword puzzle and looked over my work!
So how did I get here? Well, I practice your techniques regularly, of course. I work near a very busy airport in Dallas, so I see planes fly overhead every few minutes all day long. In the past, I didn't pay any attention to them unless the noise disrupted a conversation. But now, every time I see a plane, no matter where I am, I think to myself, "I wish I was on that plane. I love to fly. I wonder where those lucky people are going." I know how hokey that sounds (!), but I have started to feel excited again about flying. I never imagined that would happen. Thanks again for your wonderful program!
I love to fly!
